Oklahoma Smash Burgers (Onion Smash Burger)
I love smash burgers and I love onions. These onion smash burgers take smash burgers to the next level. You get the meaty deliciousness of the burger and the sweetness of the grilled onions. If you love onions you definitely need to give these a try.
Ingredients:
1 lb of ground beef (I used 80/20)
1 large white onion
salt and pepper to taste
Your favorite cheese (the best cheese for smash burgers is American cheese)
Instructions:
Slice your onions as thinly as possible
Place onions in a bowl and add around a teaspoon of salt
Let onions rest for 20 minutes
Remove onions and squeeze out excess moisture
Place the onions into a different container
Set heat to high on your griddle or pan
Add a thin layer of oil
When surface begins to smoke add your meat ball
Add a large amount of your thinly sliced onions
Place a square piece of parchment paper on top of the meat ball and onions and smash down with a metal spatula
Smash the meat down until evenly flat around a 1/4 of an inch
Remove the parchment paper and light dust with salt and pepper
When you see the edges of the meat begin the brown flip the burger over
Add cheese
Once the cheese is completely melted remove the burger and place onto a toasted hamburger bun
